The Sacrament of Anointing is intended for those who are in danger of death or are seriously ill. The Sacrament is also for those who are awaiting or recovering from serious surgery; the elderly who are notably weakened and dealing with the debilitating effects of aging, even if no serious illness exists. Sick children are permitted to receive the Sacrament provided they have achieved sufficient maturity to understand the nature of the sacrament and have the desire to receive it.
The Sacrament of Anointing is not intended for those with mild ailments such as the common cold, an upset stomach or scratchy throat If there is any question about the severity of the illness, the benefit of the doubt would be given to the person requesting the Sacrament ("Pastoral Care of the Sick" #8-12,15)
To receive the Sacrament of the Sick, please contact the Pastor to make arrangements. A special Anointing Mass is held once a year; watch the parish bulletin for more information
